Dramatic play is the representation of events and activities, real or imaginary, through play. Play is important because it is one of the ways in which children learn important and necessary skills that will help them better understand the world and help them function successfully. Some parents worry because they feel that if their children play all day then they are not learning the academic skills necessary to succeed in school. Instead, the games for fun is the easiest way to introduce new concepts such as math skills, language and writing, among others.

When children begin to use imaginative play, it is best to use subjects that are known to them. These may be issues of daily living or the family environment, including daily chores like cooking or cleaning the house. They may also be things like playing at the office, restaurant, hospital, mail, etc. Gradually you can begin entering new situations or give your children games for fun to use their imagination and learn new concepts.
